Greetings from Guelph
Well we are on our second last day of our big test, that help rank our students and school. We have been writing our test for 6 days for 100 min per day.  2 sections of math and 4 sections of reading and writing. It has not been too hard. Some of the  math questions were challenging, but we like a challenge. The weather has been spectacular!!!!!! Sunny and warm even hot for weeks. We have had our track and field races and soon we will compete against other schools in races and jumping.  We are madly trying to learn as much as we can before we leave our grade to get ready for our next year. We hope you are having a lovely spring and had a joyous time at your teacher's wedding!!!!!!

April In Guelph

We just spent the last 3 days at an outdoor center not far from our school. The program was called Earthkeepers. The camp is called Camp Edgewood. There are cabins in the woods, streams, meadows and many paths leading through the forest. We had a  lot of fun with each other and another class. Only 14 other classes from the whole area get to go to this beautiful spot. We will send pictures once we get them uploaded..We learned many things about the earth and how to keep it running and how to preserve it.

Happy Spring

Miranda building a snowman

The girls dressed up for a dance a thon fund raiser
We have had a crazy month here in Guelph! At the beginning of the month we were able to build snowmen and play in the snow. By the end of the month we were wearing shorts and playing outside in a warm 20+ degrees. We had our spring break as well. We take a week to holiday or stay at home and play. We all did different things. The children are in their last term in school. They will stay here in this school for 2 or 3 more years. Then they go off to high school. They dont write one big test. How well they do in elementary school allows them to choose where they will go to high school. We love hearing from you. Send pictures

Happy February

Greetings to the Nederlands from Guelph!
It has been a long time since we last wrote. Thank you Estelle for writing to us. I heard from your teacher you have just completed your big test. The grade Sixes in our class will also write a 3 day test in May. This is to see how they have progressed since Grade Three. The test helps the teachers know in what areas the children need help. It does not count for anything but information for the teachers. I told the children that your test helps the teachers decide where you should go to high school. Is that right? I am sending you a few pictures of the kids sewing pillows. They sewed pillows so that when they sit on the floor it is more comfortable. We still have no snow . It is very sad for us. We have only been sledding one time. Looking forward to hearing from you.xxx

Merry Christmas Happy Holidays one and all

We wish you nothing but happiness, good health and wonderful things for the New Year. It is hard for me to believe that all of you children have only been alive in the 2000's. It was a huge deal when the year went from 1999 to 2000. People thought the world was going to end and all sorts of weird things were going to happen. You only know a date with 2000 in it. It still seems funny for us old people to say. 2012 has a great ring to it. We hope for big things and great friendships to begin.
Peace

Decemeber at Westwood

Sinter Klaas has come and gone and we are all excited about Christmas coming. Did you have time off school? We have two more weeks of school. Our school days will be filled with children perfoming for us. Our school choirs will be singing us christmas and holiday songs, classes will be performing . The best is when the kinders ( age 4&5) sing a little song. They are always funny as they forget the words and wave to their parents or cry. We will have an evening concert for family and friends to join in the fun.
It has finally started to snow here. We have a very light blanket of snow. Not enough to sled on yet. Ask Ms Scholtens about her first day sledding here at Westwood. She had on a little jacket and little fashion boots. She was very cold.
In class we are reading the Narnia Chronicles, the gr 5 's are reading The Lion, the Witch and The Wardrobe. The Gr 6's are eading Prince Caspian. We are really enjoying it.  Before our holidays we will watch the movies. Have you read any of these books?
We will send pictures soon.

A rainy day in Guelph

Well it is a rainy rainy day in Guelph, We are experiencing such a rainfall today. It will rain today as much as it usually rains in a month, this is very unusual of us . Tomorrow we are having Wacky Day with the whole school . I will take pictures to show you. We like to do something crazy and fun once per month. The children will be telling you what they do for the up coming holidays. Not all the children celebrate Christmas so you will hear from them what they do this season. We are getting a large map of Holland for our class so will you tell us where you are so we can feel closer.
Loving all your posts!!!!!

Good Morning Nederlands

So happy to hear from our Dutch friends. We are all very excited to hear from you. I was telling the children this morning that we are having a very Dutch fall. Up until today, it is around 10-15degrees every day. A little sun and a little rain. Usually at this time of year it is beginning to feel like winter, cold, windy, grey and sometimes snow. Today we got a few flurries and it is cold and windy. Sunday it will be 15 degrees again. Crazy weather. A town 2 hrs from us is getting 30 cm of snow today. Our teacher is very excited as she got new downhill skies and boots.
We are having a great year. Our classroom is separte from the school. It is called a portable. We are right out by the playground and we have big windows that let in lots of light. It is like being outside. We planted 6 trees this fall and added 2 big rocks to sit on outside.  Maybe you could tell the children about Sinter Klaus.

11.11.11.11am

This morning we remembered our Veterans that have fought in World War I ,WWII, as well as Korea and Afghanistan. We all gathered in our gym and we are very solem.  This morning our choir sang Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen. We watched a slam poem put to music and pictures all about remembering our Veterans. Then our class recited "IN FLANDERS FEILDS". This is a poem written by Col John McCrae. We Remember  the sacrifices that our Canadian heroes  made. We are thankful.

Our Circus Acts

Cirque du Ole
Circus of Fun
Yesterday the class had a chance to perform circus acts that they had made up.  They worked in groups.

They worked on these acts for about one week.

Neon Circus
The reason that they made up circus acts was because in the novel we are reading, The Adventures of Tommy Smith, the main character, Tommy, runs away to join the circus.

Our First Post

This is the start of a beautiful thing.  We're starting a blog, but we are also starting an online friendship.

We are a class of wonderers from Westwood, that's why we call ourselves the Westwood Wonders!

We live in Ontario, which is a province in Canada.   We want to learn about children our own age in other countries, and we want them to learn about us.  We want to compare our differences and similarities,

All Dressed Up for Hallowe'en
So, join us on this journey of 3 classes!

"We learn today, we learn forever!"
